Somewhere, back in my youth, I set two goals for myself. I wanted to be successful and I wanted to learn everything. I figured that if I could learn everything about success I'd be halfway to both goals, so I started reading every book I could find about success. Since then I've learned how to read a book in seconds instead of days, so now I read a book, an entire book every day before I go to work. So while you're reading your way through a book I've read it several times. In all this reading I found out from Anthony Robbins that success leaves clues.
I also found a key to help me find these clues. Have you ever noticed that many counterfeits of success litter our way? Take the counterfeit and find the reality it seeks to imitate. Look for the gem of truth behind the counterfeits that the world tries to sell you.
The world today will tell you that it’s all about money. They tell you that, “You can buy anything is this world with money.” Or, "Show me the money." That is the counterfeit.
From that I found a fabulous key, "Money can't buy ... [you fill in the blank.]” Someone once told me, “Money can’t buy happiness. But it at least allows you to choose the kind of misery you like best.” [Michael Norton says, “If you think money can’t buy happiness, you’re just not spending it right. Spend it on someone else.” See his TED Talk]
The truth is that money can't buy the most precious commodities in life. This became a clue, a shining key to me. The things that really matter most are things that money cannot buy.
So, I ask you this question, "What do you want in life? What do you really want?" A very wise man said, "Man is that he might have joy."
So, how do we get joy? Using the key "money can't buy ..." I identified seven things that you will find bring the greatest joy. Using that key I identified the stuff that really matters most; the most precious, priceless stuff in the world, stuff that money can't buy:
Time
Relationships
Knowledge & Wisdom
Skills & Talents
Attitude
Character
Unalienable Rights.
Man, what a change it made in my life and to my success when I began focusing on doing the stuff that really matters most.
